We employ evidence-based therapies aligned with ethical standards and human rights principles, fostering a compadre-like therapeutic alliance. With compassion and respect, we empower our patients to unlock their potential, overcome challenges, and embrace a fulfilling and purposeful life.
The term "Compadre" refers to a close friend or companion with a strong emotional bond. In psychotherapy, our therapists take the role of a trusted companion — working alongside the patient to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This approach is particularly powerful for individuals with complex or long-standing mental health challenges, as it provides safety, support, and validation.
At Compadre Therapy, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive space where personal growth and self-discovery can flourish, offering the tools and guidance needed for positive change.

"I'm continually seeking new and inspiring ways to support individuals in their journey to reinvent themselves."
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York, Marcelino is deeply committed to providing compassionate, holistic care that respects each client's journey. Through a blend of therapeutic approaches — including Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Crisis Intervention, and Narrative Therapy — he empowers patients to face their challenges and create meaningful transformation.
Marcelino earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees Summa Cum Laude at Lehman College, and has taught Human Services as a professor within the CUNY system.
Marcelino has worked across diverse practice settings including Housing Works, Episcopal Social Services, nursing homes, adult day care centers, and some of New York City's most renowned hospitals. Throughout his career he has served people facing incarceration, homelessness, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, aging, mental health, and chronic health issues.
In each encounter, he noticed a common thread: many individuals were resistant to change — not because they lacked the capacity, but because they were unaware of the resources within themselves, or felt bound by the institutions meant to support them.
"This realization led him to found Compadre Therapy, a mental health private practice devoted to unlocking each person's hidden potential."
Today, Marcelino continues to help individuals confront challenges, embrace personal growth, and transform their lives with compassionate, empowering care. His journey is a testament to the strength of reinvention and the profound change that becomes possible when one taps into their own inner resources.
